“quirky piano pop with some serious jazz notes”
Audiences adore KATiE DiTSCHUN for her crystal-clear voice and nuanced phrasing. She draws them in with her sincerity and warmth.
Born and raised in Brantford, Ontario, singer-songwriter Katie Ditschun now calls Alexandria, Ontario home. After studying at Berklee College of Music (jazz and contemporary vocal), she moved to Montreal where her focus was on raising her son and teaching music lessons privately.
Katie made the decision in 2016 to move forward with her music career. It was the onset of her mother’s liver disease that pushed Katie to get moving! Her mother’s illness combined with Katie’s experience with secondary infertility were both big inspirations for many of the songs on her debut album.
In 2018 Katie received an Artist Development grant from FACTOR and this helped her complete the recording of her debut album, Spare Skirt (May 2019). Since the songs on Spare Skirt vary in stylistic inspiration, the album on a whole offers contrast, substance, and sincerity.
In the past year she has released three singles with official videos “Here We Are,” “That is that.” and “The Moon.” Her most recent release, “Be Still” (2020), Katie’s holiday single, was included in CBC’s holiday playlist.
During COVID, Katie has been performing online concerts (Open Mic at Make, The Glengarry Celtic Festival, via Facebook Live…) and is a Sessions LIVE artist. She also offered her fans free online vocal workshops at the beginning of the pandemic.
Katie’s “That is that.” music video was a Folk Category finalist in Dropout Entertainment’s 3rd Annual Canadian Independent Music Video Awards.
Recently Katie has been writing new music and preparing for an upcoming EP release later this year.
